THE BEGINNING OF THE END
CHAPTER 28- CHAINED UP
Rob and Jenny laid still after the grenade detonated.
Some of the smoke that was such a nuisance before had now returned, but with the high winds, it cleared away in a matter of no time.
"Did you get him?" Jenny whispered to Rob, who now knelt down beside her.
"I sure as hell hope so, because if this doesn't work we're screwed," Rob replied as he peeked his head out over the hood of the hummer.
He could see pieces of scrap metal plunged into the hood and side of the hummer, and after seeing that, he realized he had a few small pieces stuck in his leg that must have went under the vehicle.
He didn't mind, though. The more important thing was what the hell happened to Jason?
He peered into the clearing where Jason had stood only moments earlier, but there was no sign of him.
"Can you see anything?" Jenny asked as she stood up next to him.
Rob didn't answer. He just shook his head and walked slowly out into the open, with Jenny close behind.
"Let's just leave already! Whether he's dead or not, it doesn't really matter. All that matters is that we’re alive right here, right now, so let’s take this opportunity and get the hell out of here," Jenny pleaded with Rob as she grabbed his arm, stopping him.
"I can't,” Rob replied quietly. “I have to be sure. Why don't you go and hide in the back of the hummer. If you hear me struggling out here, just take off."
"No! That's crazy! It was my choice to come here in the first place, and I'm the one that told you there's safety in numbers, even if that number is two. I'm with you till the end," Jenny replied sternly.
Rob just looked in her eyes and, for the first time, his heart melted. No one had ever been like this with him before, not even his closest friends. And now there's this girl that he barely knew and she was willing to die with him if need be.
Before she could say anything else, Rob just kissed her, and for that brief second, everything seemed to be okay.
There was no Jason Voorhees.
All his friends were still alive, including both his twin sisters, and he felt like he was back home relaxing and enjoying a beer.
However, when the kiss ended, reality hit him again like a freight train.
Jenny didn't speak. She only seemed really pleased to have finally gotten her way. However, it was a really bad moment, and she wished they could just leave.
The two continued to walk slowly toward the clearing, moving silently with their senses on high alert for anything.
Then Rob noticed in the distance what looked like a body.
"I think I see something," Rob said as he went into a trot toward the body, with Jenny close behind.
Rob almost let out a cheer of triumph when he reached the body to see that it was indeed Jason Voorhees.
His limbs were all still intact, but his body was badly battered.
Jenny saw him and just gasped as she clamped down onto Rob’s arm.
"It's okay, he's not breathing,” Rob assured her. “I'm not even sure if he breathes or not, but just use caution, and don't get too close.”
"Oh, you don't gotta worry about that,” Jenny responded as she hid behind Rob. “I'm staying as far away from him as possible."
"Okay, he's unconscious, maybe even dead, but nonetheless, I want to get him secured in case we’re wrong," Rob said, plotting what to do next.
Then it hit him.
He saw some chains and a lock back in the hummer. They could use that on him.
"Okay, I need you to stay here and keep an eye on him,” Rob said. “If he so much as flinches, run like hell.”
"What, why?” Jenny asked, confused. “What are you doing?"
"I got a plan,” Rob replied. “But I need to get the hummer."
"Okay, but be fast," Jenny said, upset about being alone with this monster.
"I will," Rob called back, already running toward the hummer.
Jenny watched with great anticipation, waiting for even the slightest movement from Jason.
Surprisingly, there was none.
The hummer's headlights just about blinded Jenny as Rob pulled up and parked only a few feet away from Jason's body.
Jenny wished Rob would of ran the fucker over a couple of times, but then thought it didn't matter because he seemed dead anyway.
Rob hurried back to Jenny carrying two large chains and a large padlock.
"Okay, now for the hard part," Rob said as he dropped the chains to his feet.
"Let's just get it over with," Jenny said, already knowing what they had to do next.
Rob just grunted and shook his head as he carefully draped one of the chains around Jason's chest, then another across the chain in an "X" shape.
Neither one spoke a word, either because they feared their voices would awaken Jason, or because they were concentrating so hard on wrapping up his body as tight as possible.
It took them nearly 10 minutes of painful suspense, but they finally had both of Jason's arms chained up behind his back as if he were in a type of straight jacket, and both his feet were bound tightly together.
Rob and Jenny just stared at their handiwork in amazement that they were able to tie him up that good without a single altercation.
However, neither one of them noticed Jason's finger twitch behind his back.
