RETURN TO CRYSTAL LAKE
CHAPTER 13- CABIN FEVER

Scott sat down by the dock staring out over the waters of Crystal Lake wondering what the hell he was going to do with Ashley and Nikki, when two powerful hands grabbed him from behind.

He turned around fast and saw Sean and Kevin laughing at him.

"Boo," Sean said, cracking up laughing.

"What's wrong, man?" Kevin asked. "You look sick or something."

"Yeah, I'm sick alright, sick of this moron," Scott replied, playfully tackling Sean to the ground and pretending to punch him.

"Hey, hey I give, alright, stop it!" Sean yelled, trying to squirm out of a submission move that Scott just put on him.

"Seriously though, are you ok?" Kevin asked, still worried about his cousin.

"I got caught," Scott said, picking up a nearby rock and heaving it into the lake.

"What do you mean you got caught?" Kevin asked, confused. "Got caught what?"

"I mean...I had sex with Nikki last night and Krista walked in on us this morning and found us both naked laying on the cabin floor," Scott replied.

"Aw, man, that sucks, how could you let her catch you?" Sean asked.
"I don't know," Scott replied. "I tried to leave after it was over, but Nikki wouldn't let me and I was tired as hell, so I just fell asleep."

"Does Ashley know yet?" Kevin asked.

"I don't think so," Scott replied.

Just as Scott said that, Emmy came stomping down the trail and got in Scott's face and screamed, "Jerk!"

"Does that answer your question?" Sean said, laughing again, harder this time.

"Shut up man, this isn't funny. What should I do?" Scott pleaded.

"Just say it wasn't you," Sean said, imitating the Shaggy song.

Scott just shook his head and turned to Kevin for advice.

"You should go talk to Ashley," Kevin replied, in his best fatherly-lecture voice, "But whatever you do, don't break up with her and go out with Nikki. Ashley really loves you man, it would totally crush her if you dropped her for that slut Nikki."

"Slut?" Scott asked, puzzled.

"Remember last night when we heard her scream and went down to see what it was?" Kevin asked.

"Yeah, why?" Scott asked.

"I got to her first and picked her up, and whenever I picked her up she kissed me for no reason," Kevin stated.

"Holy shit," Scott replied, stunned. "What a slut!"

"Yeah, tell me about it, but I think you need some time alone to think this all through," Kevin said, patting his cousin on the shoulder.

"Thanks Kev, I'll be around here somewhere, so I'll talk to you guys later," Scott said, hugging his cousin and taking off up the trail back to the cabins.

"Good luck, man," Sean yelled, as Scott disappeared into the wilderness.

***

Scott knew that he should talk to Ashley everything, but he just couldn't face her right now.

I never realized that I felt this strongly about her, Scott thought to himself, hiking up the trail by himself.

I just can't see her hurt like this. I'm going to give her some time to cool down, then I'm going to tell her I'm sorry and how much I love her, he thought.

It was starting to get hotter outside and Scott could feel a little trickle of sweat run down his forehead.

He had been walking on the same trail for about 15 minutes, not really paying any attention to where he was heading. He could still see some of the back cabins through the trees, so he knew he wouldn't get lost.

Before he left for his hike, he stopped by his car and got his bookbag and a bottle of water, not to mention his portable CD player. If there was one thing that could guide Scott, it was his music.

Walking down the back trail, Scott heard a noise up ahead of him. He went to investigate, but only found two deer and a baby fawn leaping out onto the path in front of him and back into the other side of the woods.

Scott decided he better stop walking before he ends up getting lost and eaten by a bear, so he went back into the woods and to the nearest cabin he came to, which happened to be cabin 18. He then managed to climb onto the roof of the cabin just to make sure no one would find him.

He sprawled out on the dirty roof, took a drink of water and started listening to Memphis Bleek's "Is That Your Chick?" to try and get into his player mind set.

This wasn't even the first time that he had cheated on Ashley. He must of cheated on her about five other times. But for some reason, he had no clue why this one made him feel so bad.

Scott just laid there, looking up into the clouds and wishing he hadn't done what he did last night.

He let the rest of the CD run out then just laid there enjoying the silence. All he heard were the birds chirping and the wind over the lake.

Then, all of a sudden, he heard something like footsteps walking through the woods.

He immediately sat up and looked all around him for any sign of movement, but saw none.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw what looked to be the figure of a man moving silently through the bushes about 100 yards or so into the woods ahead of him. He couldn't make out who it was, but it sure didn't look like Kevin or Sean.

Whatever it was gave Scott the chills and his body told him to get the hell out of there.

The man didn't seem to notice Scott as he sat completely still on the roof top barely even breathing.

He watched the man like a hawk. The man seemed to be dressed in black, but he was too far away to make out any other features. Then the man disappeared, but Scott still didn't move for about 10 more minutes.

It must have been some kind of backwoods hillbilly taking a shortcut back to his shack, Scott thought to himself. Nothing to get worried about, just some old man taking a walk in the woods.

Then he went to get down, but stopped in his tracks when he heard Ashley and Emmy walking up the trail next to the lake.

Oh shit, I almost forgot about that, Scott thought, as he slowly edged his way back on the roof so the girls wouldn't spot him.

"So, are you ok now?" Emmy asked Ashley as they sat on the porch of the cabin.

"Yeah I guess so, I don't know for sure," Ashley glumly replied. "I just don't want to believe that this is true, I mean how could he do this to me? I thought we were meant for each other?"

"Well, maybe you are and this is a test," Emmy stated. "I think you should just talk to him about all of this and see if he truly is sorry."

"Yeah, now if only I can find him, we searched this whole damn campsite and there's no trace of him," Ashley said, staring out into the woods as if Scott would magically appear. She didn't know it, but he was staring right back at her.

"Well, let's get back. I'm starting to get hungry, how about you?" Emmy suggested.

"I don't think I will be able to eat for a week," Ashley said as the two girls stood up. "But let's head back anyway. This cabin gives me the creeps."

"Yeah, me too," Emmy replied, staring at the rotted front door of the cabin.

With that, the two girls jogged back up the trail next to the lake. Scott waited a couple of minutes on the roof, then finally climbed down and decided he better go talk to Ashley.

However, he still couldn't get the image of that man out of his mind.

Maybe I should tell them all about it, Scott thought.

Or not.

He finally decided that he better keep his mouth shut, for the good of the vacation. No one was all that thrilled to be out here anyway, especially since they heard that bullshit story from the professor and the car wreck sure didn't help matters.

Well, no damn car wreck or professor is going to ruin my weekend, Scott thought. And neither will whatever I saw back there. This is going to be the best Friday the 13th ever.
