THE RATING

THE LAIR EXPERTS

Matt: I was stunned the first time I watched this film. I couldn't believe I was watching a student-produced film. Cory Stevens really did an excellent job of bringing Morse's novel to life, and it even made me go back and read the novel again for the first time in ages. The actors also performed well, in particular Carly (Mali MacConnell) and Boone (Benjamin M. Santos). Their portrayal was exactly how I pictured those characters when I read the book. The only cast member that was off was Monique, but given that the first four choices for the role didn't pan out, I think Nicole Lillie did a good job, considering the situation. The soundtrack was awesome as well, with the exception of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper". That song is a 'Halloween' staple, and did not belong in a 'Friday The 13th' film. Other than that, the tribute songs were excellent, and I particularly loved Danzig's "Mother" being used for the credits. Definitely a nice touch. Add to it the original score composed by Harry Manfredini and Fred Mollin from the actual films, and you have a winner. 7.5 out of 10.

A.J.: As far as fan-made movies go, this is about as good as you're going to get. It is obvious from start to finish that the director put great care into making this movie, and really did Morse’s novel justice. So if you even remotely liked 'Mother's Day' as a book, then I recommend seeing this movie as it is nearly word for word identical to the book. All of the actors, with the exception of Monique’s character, surprisingly did an excellent job. I really don’t have too much bad to say about this movie, and the first time I watched it I got so engulfed in the film that I forgot this was simply a student production, because there are numerous scenes that seem to be professionally done. Go watch this movie right now! 8 out of 10.
