1. What 1985 movie did Chucky spoof by hiding in the toilet?
2. What was ultimately revealed to be Chucky's plan?
3. According to Chucky, how many times has he killed Tiffany?
4. How many dolls were in the truck that was headed to the children's hospital?
5. What time was the flight scheduled to leave the airport with all the Chucky dolls?
ANSWERS
1. Chucky spoofed the 1985 movie 'Ghoulies' by hiding in the toilet.
2. Chucky needed to corrupt an innocent and get them to kill to unleash his army.
3. Chucky said he killed Tiffany four times.
4. There were 72 dolls in the truck that was headed to the children's hospital.
5. The flight leaving the airport with the Chucky dolls was scheduled for midnight.
2. During the screening of 'Frankenstein' (1931), Lexy and Junior end up behind the screen with one of the Chuckies. If that's the case, why wasn't the movie on the screen in reverse since they were behind it?
3. When Chucky goes on his rampage at the theater, he stabs up from under the seats. If that was the case, how did he manage to reach the chests of the victims since he was only using a knife, not a longer weapon like a machete?
4. During Chucky's 'fireside chat' at the end of the episode, he sums up all his kills of the season, but the number is wrong. The season total is actually 25, and they even show the death of Detective Evans twice.
2. After decapitating Chucky to protect Nica, Tiffany taunts him with the revelation that she'd betrayed him to the police in 1988. A flashback then showed young Tiffany (Blaise Crocker) directly name-dropping Mike Norris, the detective played by Chris Sarandon that originally killed Charles.
3. When Junior asks Chucky why he didn't simply kill Andy, he says that he'd had a gun and that "I hate guns. They are like my achilles heel, along with axes, fire, and industrial-sized fans". Each was a reference to an actual defeat suffered by Chucky in the past, with ax used in 'Seed Of Chucky' (2004) and the giant fan in 'Child's Play 3' (1991).
4. Near the end of the film, when Chucky is on top of Jake threatening him with a knife, he says, "you're thinking 'how could a little doll possibly be so strong?'" Jake then replies, "it doesn't make any sense!" Chucky then says, "you're nothing against the power of the great, almighty Damballa!" This seems to clear up the size difference issue fans have questioned over the years by implying that Chucky's strength is enhanced by the powers of voodoo.
5. The movie shown in the theater is the original 'Frankenstein' (1931). In 'Bride Of Chucky' (1998), Tiffany Valentine was watching 'Bride Of Frankenstein' (1935) while in the bathtub shortly before Chucky electrocutes her, a possible callback or nod to that film.
6. After arriving in Hackensack, Andy searches the Wheeler house for Chucky, even checking beneath the bubbles in the bathtub. The moment is a nod to the time Chucky electrocuted Tiffany in 'Bride Of Chucky' (1998).
7. During a catch-up, doll Chucky and Nica-Chucky move onto the subject of Andy Barclay. As they do, doll Chucky quips, "You should have seen his face when I killed his babysitter". The line was a nod to the original 'Child's Play' (1988) and Chucky's first kill as a doll when he sent Maggie (Dinah Manoff) plummeting to her death from a window.
8. Chucky breaks away from Caroline (Carina London Battrick) and proceeds to begin slaughtering those in attendance. To do so, he attacks from beneath, driving his knife up through people's seats. This was a nod to the original film, when he tried to stab Mike Norris from beneath the seat of his car.
9. As Chucky riles up his doll army and human allies for the arrival of "the good guys," he remarks that they are going to "party like it's 1999", a popular phrase that originated in the classic 1982 Prince song.
10. After Jake is able to disarm Chucky, he remarks that the killer is nothing more than a "Teddy Ruxpin without his knife". Like Chucky's 'Good Guy' form, Teddy Ruxpin is an animatronic children's toy that peaked in popularity during the mid-1980s.
11. As a human, Chucky was known as the Lakeshore Strangler, so it is rather ironic that one of his doll forms meets his end via strangulation by Jake.
12. Just like at the climax of the original film, the decapitated Chucky manages to remotely will his body into movement.
13. After being reunited with the Chucky doll, the human Tiffany greets him with a tickle session and a kiss. In the process, she refers to him as "sweet face". That is, of course, her common pet name for people- especially those she loves.
FRANKENSTEIN (1931)
The movie poster is displayed behind Mayor Michelle Cross during her press conference, and the movie is later shown in the theater.
AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER (1957)
The episode's title 'An Affair To Dismember', is an amusingly twisted riff on the 1957 romance classic 'An Affair To Remember'.
THE SHINING (1980)
After possessing the previously harmless Billy doll, Chucky cheerfully stalks Jake and Lexy. As he cuts his way through a curtain, he musically says, "Heeeere's Chucky!" The moment was obviously a nod to 'The Shining' (1980), allowing the killer doll to say the line he couldn't think of after breaking through a door in 'Seed Of Chucky' (2004). Also, at around 16 minutes into the episode, after Chucky has briefed his army, the theme from the film can be heard briefly.
GHOULIES (1985)
In the beginning of the episode, after Andy leaves the Wheeler house, Chucky reveals to Junior that he'd been hiding in the toilet, a nod to the horror-comedy 'Ghoulies' (1985).
RE-ANIMATOR (1985)
Despite being decapitated, Chucky was still able to talk and command his body, which he orders to kill Devon. This is a nod to the cult horror movie 'Re-Animator' (1985), which saw a separated head and body also horrifically target people.
BOXING HELENA (1993)
Having developed a twisted love for 'Cult Of Chucky's Nica Pierce, Tiffany sought to keep her around while also diminishing the threat posed by Chucky taking control of her body again. To that end, Tiffany had Nica's arms and legs surgically removed. This is a nod to this film, which sees surgeon Nick Cavanaugh (Julian Sands) equally amputate the limbs of a woman he's obsessed with.
TELEVISION
DEAD MEAT (2017)
The episode (and season) concludes with Chucky engaging in a fourth-wall-breaking fireside chat with the audience. As he does so, Chucky goes back over his varying kills, tallying them up to a grand total of 21. This is a nod to the popular YouTube channel 'Dead Meat', which specializes in horror and is famous for its kill count videos.
SyFy TV Rating: 0.296
Solid conclusion to a solid season. Chucky's plan to take over the world
culminates with a charity screening of the classic monster film 'Frankenstein',
with Andy and his new friends the only ones standing in his way. Lots
of the "good stuff" and an open-ended conclusion that will inevitably lead
to Season 2.
The transition of Chucky from the big screen to the small screen was
seamless, with lots of drama and, more importantly, continuity, connecting
this series to the original films. The kills were very 'Chucky-like' and the finale
left me wanting more. A nice addition to the franchise as a whole.
