TRIVIA

QUESTIONS

1. What was the name of the foster home Charles was placed in?
2. What famous story did Charles read to the other boys at the foster home?
3. What medication did Jake tell Lexy he was taking for anxiety?
4. What character from the original film makes an appearance in this episode?
5. What was Charles' parting gift to his underling when he left the foster home?

ANSWERS

1. Charles was placed in the 'Burlington County Home For Wayward Boys'.
2. Charles read 'Peter Pan' to the other boys at the foster home.
3. Jake told Lexy he was taking Effexor for anxiety.
4. Eddie Caputo (as a boy) appears at the foster home as Charles' underling.
5. Charles' parting gift to his underling was the severed hand of the janitor.

BLOOPERS

1. Why would Chucky stay in the house and let himself burn, and not escape while the fire was spreading?

2. When Lexy and Jake go back to her house looking for Chucky, she has changed her clothes, despite not having access to her clothes, which were all at the house.

3. While searching her house, Lexy picks up a rod of rebar from the floor to use as a weapon. Aside from structural support in concrete foundations, rebar is not commonly used in residential construction. It's even less likely in her home, which is described as an historical landmark.

4. The used needles (sharps) Chucky uses on the detective are found in a toolbox just sitting on the floor. In reality, sharps have been disposed of in special containers for decades to prevent accidental sticks and/or re-use.

5. When Chucky unplugged a power cable on Caroline's oxygen machine, it triggered an alarm in her room and a PA announcement can be heard for a resuscitation team. She was only wearing an oxygen mask, not something as serious as intubation or a ventilator, so she wouldn't have needed resuscitation.

6. When young Charles shows the dead janitor's body to the other children, you can see the pulse in his neck. Since he had been there long enough for maggots to grow, there should have been no sign of life left in him.

DID YOU KNOW

1. As Detective Peyton retrieved Chucky from the debris of the house fire, he remarked that he was "a f***ing ugly doll". Chucky was similarly insulted by an elderly lady in the original 'Child's Play', and Chucky insulted her with an f-bomb in return. In this one, however, Detective Peyton met a much more brutal fate.

2. Before Chucky kills Detective Peyton, he tells him "you may feel a little prick". This, of course, was paraphrased from the tagline of 'Cult Of Chucky', which also saw him equally terrorize a medical facility.

3. The child in the hospital is shown wearing 'Good Guy' merchandise, which is very similar to merch worn by Andy Barclay in the original film.

4. The letters of the opening titles are made up of scalpels and syringes.

5. The flashback sequences address Charles' early childhood friendship with a young Eddie Caputo. Eddie is the second person Chucky kills in the original film.

6. At the end of the episode, Chucky flashes a middle finger to Jake, Lexy, and Devon the middle finger. This move has long been a staple of Chucky's, as he has flipped the bird to several enemies over the years, including Nica in 'Cult Of Chucky'. This move solidified the end of his and Jake's friendship and marked Jake, Lexy, and Devon as his enemies moving forward.

7. During this episode, the character Eddie Caputo from the original 'Child's Play' (1988) is shown as an underling to Charles at the foster home, adding to their backstory together.

REFERENCES

FILMS

PETER PAN (1953)
During the flashback sequences, the teenage Charles is shown reading and playing twisted games based on 'Peter Pan'. This explains why Chucky wanted to remain a doll, and also addresses elements of his wider M.O., especially regarding corrupting his young underlings.

NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959)
After Lexy fell into another life or death situation, Jake finally turned from the dark side and chose to save her rather than kill her. The whole moment, from when he caught Lexy to when he pulled her to safety, is an homage to the climactic Mount Rushmore scenes from Alfred Hitchcock's 'North By Northwest' (1959).

THE SHINING (1980)
As Jake waited for news at the hospital, a ball rolled down the corridor to him. Though the source proved not quite so sinister, the moment echoed a scene from 'The Shining' (1980). There, Danny was lured into Room 237 when a ball rolled ominously over to him.
