TRIVIA

QUESTIONS

1. According to Devon's podcast, how many stitches did Rachel get carving a pumpkin?
2. What was the license plate of Logan's Lexus SUV?
3. What reason did Oliver use for hosting a party at his house?
4. How old was Devon when his Dad died?
5. What was Chucky's Halloween mask?

ANSWERS

1. According to Devon's podcast, Rachel got 15 stitches carving a pumpkin.
2. Logan's Lexus SUV had a 'H603-RAZP' license plate.
3. Oliver said his parents were in London for the weekend.
4. Devon told Jake he was 9 when his Dad died.
5. Chucky's Halloween mask was of the popular 'Hello Kitty' doll.

BLOOPERS

1. The flashback scene at the beginning of the episode, which is supposedly happening in the U.S. in 1965, shows 'Rockets' candy, which is only its name in Canada. In the U.S., that same candy is known as 'Smarties'. As a result, this is a dead giveaway that the episode was filmed in Canada.

DID YOU KNOW

1. When Chucky says to Jake that he has a "queer kid", he's referring to Glen/Glenda from 'Seed Of Chucky'. Creator Don Mancini was asked at the Chucky panel at New York Comic Con 2021 whether or not the character would be making an appearance in the series, and he replied with a cheeky "keep watching".

2. In this episode, Chucky is seen wearing a Hello Kitty mask when he's "trick or treating" and gives Gladys a green apple filled with a razor as a treat. Two years before the series premiered, Sanrio once made a collaboration with the 'Child's Play' franchise by releasing official Hello Kitty X-themed 'Child's Play' merchandise exclusively to Universal Studios Japan, with Hello Kitty as Chucky, Tiffany, and Glen/Glenda.

3. The final shot of Jake in this episode is a callback to a 'Child's Play' series mainstay. A character's reflection getting caught in the mirror surface of a knife blade is a familiar sight for fans, and it's always a promise of violence to come.

4. Chucky says to Caroline that her mother is working her way up on his kill list, which is a call back to 'Seed Of Chucky', where he mentions that he killed Tiffany's mother.

5. Don Mancini makes a cameo appearance in this episode as the Uber driver that ferries Junior to the Halloween party.

6. Logan (Devon Sawa) and Bree (Lexa Doig) discussed whether they were capable of looking after somebody as troubled and traumatized as Jake. The conversation was very similar to one Andy Barclay's foster parents Phil and Joanne had when taking him in at the start of 'Child's Play 2'. The conversation even includes a line from Bree that is almost identical to what Phil said in that film: "Are we even qualified to take care of a boy like this".

7. This episode's title is a reference to the Halloween trick-or-treating rhyme, "Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat! If you don't, I don't care, I'll pull down your underwear!"

8. The letters of the opening titles are made up of knives and pumpkins.

REFERENCES

FILMS

HALLOWEEN II (1981)
Mayor Michelle Cross mentions Dr. Mixter, a reference to a character in 'Halloween II' (1981). Also, the depiction of apples with razor blades has appeared in many films, including 'Halloween II' (1981) and 'Night Of The Demons' (1988).

HEATHERS (1988)
Lexy offered the memorable line, "F*** Jake Wheeler with a chainsaw!", which paraphrases an iconic line from 1988's 'Heathers'. In it, Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) exclaims, "F*** me gently with a chainsaw!" With a focus on murderous retaliation against bullies and the like, 'Chucky' and 'Heathers' have shared more than a few darkly comedic shades.

NIGHT OF THE DEMONS (1988)
Giving trick-or-treaters apples with razor blades embedded in them is an American urban legend. Although there are no documented cases of this actually happening, there was an incident involving Ronald Clark O'Bryan, nicknamed 'The Candy Man' by the press. O'Bryan was convicted of killing his 8-year-old son on Halloween 1974 with potassium cyanide-laced Pixy Stix that was ostensibly collected during a trick-or-treat outing. This sparked a nationwide panic and encouraged parents to check their children's Halloween candy before allowing them to eat it. However, the depiction of apples with razor blades has appeared in many films, including 'Halloween II' (1981) and 'Night Of The Demons' (1988).

Matt: 8 out of 10.
I am always a sucker for Halloween-themed episodes, and this one
is no different. Really cool to see Chucky in this setting, particularly
his antics while in costume. The story begins to unfold, as Chucky
attempts to get in Jake's head and we catch a glimpse of what's to come.
