RETURN TO CRYSTAL LAKE
CHAPTER 3- LOAD 'EM UP

"Where the hell is Nikki at now?" Sean asked angrily.

"She had to go back to the bathroom to put even more make-up on," Scott replied as he heaved a bag into the back of his Ford Explorer.

"Man, she needs to hurry the hell up. It's already after 4 and the drive to camp is about three hours, we are going to need some time to unpack and set up," stated Sean as he jumped up on the hood of his Jeep waiting impatiently for Nikki to arrive.

The group had just finished packing the bags into the back of Scott's Explorer and had been standing around the parking lot for about a half-hour now. Emmy and Ashley were standing off to the side whispering to each other and every now and then they would glance over at their boyfriends.

Sean was perched on the hood of his Jeep, Scott was still straightening out the back of his Explorer, and Kevin was sitting on the ground with his back up against the tire of Sean's Jeep, as somber as ever.

Meanwhile, Krista has been leaning against the hood of Scott's Explorer, wondering to herself whether or not she should go over and talk to Kevin.

Wow, he really looks out of it, Krista thought to herself. He's so fragile, I don't want to go over and talk to him and have him break down.

Krista never really could handle other people crying. When she was a child, every time someone around her started to cry, no matter who the person was, she would start balling.

OK, I have to do this, Krista told herself. Scott brought him up here so he can have a good time and enjoy himself, and I'm going to see to it that he has the best time of his life.

Krista got up casually and slowly walked over to where Kevin was sitting.

"Hey do you mind if I join you? It looks so comfy." Krista asked Kevin.

Kevin looked up at her smiling down at him, and his eyes widened with shock.

"What? Um, here, hold on I'll stand up. I don't want you getting your jeans all dirty," Kevin replied.

"Aww, you're such a sweetheart," Krista said.

Kevin did not reply, instead he shyly looked down at his shoes.

"So, what's up?" Krista asked joyfully.

"Nothing really. I'm just getting bored sitting around here waiting," Kevin replied still not looking up at her.

"Oh yeah, that's my sister for you. She acts as if we are going to a beauty pageant instead of trip to the woods."

"Oh," was all Kevin could manage to say.

"So, did Scott tell you anything about this place we are going to?" Krista asked, trying to make conversation.

"Just that there are a lot of old cabins and a huge lake and stuff," Kevin said, finally looking up at her.

"Yeah, that's pretty much all he told me to," said Krista. "He didn't even tell me the name of this place."

"Yeah he wouldn't tell me the name either," replied Kevin.

"Oh well I'm sure Nikki knows. He talks to her way more then he talks to me."

"Yeah well that's Scott for you," Kevin answered sounding more comfortable and relaxed.

"So, I heard you play goalie," Krista asked.

"I used to, until I lost my scholarship," Kevin replied.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Krista replied. "Were you any good?"

"Number One ranked goalie in the nation," Kevin replied.

"Sorry," Krista replied again.

Just then Nikki came bouncing out of the building.

"Hey guys, did you miss me?" she asked playfully.

"Oh yes, we were literally going to crumble up and die if you didn't come back soon," said Ashley snobbingly.

Nikki just gave her a fake smile and continued on as if Ashley never spoke a word.

"Alright, let's get the hell outta here!!!" Scott exclaimed clapping his hands loudly.

"Yeah, it's about damn time," Sean replied jumping off the hood of his Jeep. "Whoever is riding with me you better load up fast."

Emmy hurried over to Sean's Jeep yelling shotgun. Ashley climbed into the passenger seat of Scott's Explorer and Nikki rushed to get in the backseat. Kevin started to climb into the back of Sean's Jeep when Krista grabbed his arm.

"Hey, do you mind if I sit with you on the way out?" Krista asked Kevin, giving him puppy dog eyes. "I promise I won't bite."

Kevin forced a half smile and said, "Sure, climb in."

Scott pulled out and then Sean followed him out of the parking lot. They both squealed their tires as they sped off onto the main road, and drove off down the road toward the horseshoe of cabins, vast blue lake, and, little did they know, the masked figure of Jason Voorhees, waiting for the next batch of unlucky teens who dare step foot in his wilderness.
