RETURN TO CRYSTAL LAKE
CHAPTER 1- PACKING AND YACKING

Newkirk, Massachusetts.
Thursday, October 12th.
The Present.

"May I have your attention please? I have a very important announcement to make," said Professor Chang Hon, shouting over his very loud and out of control American Literature 101 class at Newkirk College.

"Here it comes, probably another five page report due by Monday," stated sophomore Ashley Arino. Ashley is 19, with straight, long brown hair and bright green eyes. She is rather short for her age, and quite often becomes the butt-end of many short jokes.

"I sure hope not," replied Emmy Johnson, another sophomore, who was sitting next to her. Emmy and Ashley have been best friends ever since their freshman year of high school. Emmy, also 19, has short blonde hair and icy blue eyes. She is only a couple inches taller than Ashley.

Ashley and Emmy had just become roommates this year after repeatedly pleading with the Dean to let them have a room together. The Newkirk College policy is that whoever you are assigned, that is who you get. No exceptions. I guess they made an exception here, didn't they? Both Ashley and Emmy were as slim as a stick. In fact, they were considered to be two of the finer looking girls on the whole campus.

"Well, I'm sure this news is going to disappoint you kids who just love my lectures on Edgar Allan Poe and Alice Walker," said their middle-aged Chinese professor.

"I'm afraid I'm going to have to cancel class for tomorrow, because my wife and I are planning on spending the weekend out at our new lakeside cabin and enjoy nature. That being said, class is dismissed until Monday. Everyone have a safe three-day weekend."

"Oh my God! Can you believe it?" exclaimed Emmy as they sped out of the building and made their way back to their room.

"Yeah I know, I guess Friday the 13th doesn't always mean bad luck," replied Ashley with a smile.

"Let's hurry and get back because Sean is supposed to be coming over to help us pack and I don't want him roaming around the dorm without me there," said Emmy.

Just then two powerful arms wrapped around her and spun her around so she was face-to-face with her attacker.

"Too late. I'm already here," said a familiar voice.

"Sean! Oh my God I thought you had a class what the hell are you doing here, you scared the shit out of me," said Emmy, still trying to catch her breath.

"Screw class. You think I'm going to actually sit through some boring lecture just thinking about our big trip tomorrow?" he replied.

Sean Williams, a junior at Newkirk, has been going out with Emmy for a couple of months. So far this has been his longest relationship with a girl. He had been the ultimate player.

Sean is tall and strong, with brown hair and dark brown eyes and the only reason he is even in college is because he is the captain of Newkirk's hockey team and he is on scholarship.

"You're bad, you know that?" Emmy stated, "But I guess that's what I like about you."

"Well guys, home sweet home," Ashley said as she unlocked the door to her dorm.

"Hey by the way Sean, have you heard anything from Scott?" Ashley asked.

"Actually," Sean says awkwardly, "He left a little bit ago to go pick up Nikki and Krista in town."

Nikki and Krista Goldwater are twin sisters who attend the local cosmetology school. They have a reputation in town for getting around, and by the way the two of them look, they could probably get any guy in the state just by snapping their fingers.

With their long, strawberry-blonde hair, blue eyes, small waist, and big chest, it was no surprise that they got a modeling contract at the age of 15, and now, at 19, they are rich. Well, ever since they posed in Playboy, anyhow. Neither Ashley or Emmy seemed to pleased that they were coming along for the trip.

"What?! Since when are they invited?" Ashley yelled.

"Ever since this morning when Scott called them up and invited them," Sean said with a smirk.

"Oh this is just getting better by the minute," Ashley charged. "Just how often do they have these little phone conversations?"

"Whoa, calm down there cow-girl, they are just friends, it's not like they are sleeping together or anything," Sean replied.

"Oh gee thanks, that makes everything so much better," replied Ashley sarcastically.

"It's ok Ashley, just don't let either one of them get the chance to even come near Scott," Emmy says, trying to comfort her friend. "You just got to have a little talk with this boyfriend of yours, lay down the law, and tighten your leash a little bit."

Scott Anderson had been going out with Ashley ever since they were juniors in high school. They were even voted the cutest couple of their senior class. But it seems like ever since Scott came to college and met Sean, he turned into a completely different person. He never buys her flowers for her anymore. He never writes her love notes anymore. Hell, he barely even tells her he loves her anymore.

Scott is an alternate captain of the hockey team, with short brown hair, green eyes and a tan muscular body. Ashley has had to swat the girls off of him like flies since high school.

"This weekend is gonna rule," Sean adds, when his cell phone rings and interrupts him.

"Who the hell would want to call you?" Emmy says sarcastically.

They both listen as Sean talks on his phone.

"Hello? Oh for real? Alright that's cool, you sure he's going to remember who I am? OK man, don't worry about it. I'm on my way now."

"Who was that?" asks Ashley.

"Oh, it was just Scott. He's running kind of late with Nikki and Krista and he wants me to go pick up his cousin Kevin at the airport," Sean replied.

"Is he seriously going to go?" asked Ashley in shock.

"Well yeah obviously if I have to pick him up," Sean fired back.

"Shut up, smart ass. I just didn't think he would be going considering what happened last year and all," Ashley suggested.

"What happened last year and Kevin who?" asks Emmy.

"Kevin Staley," Sean informs her. "He used to be one of the funniest guys ever."

"Used to be?" Emmy asked.

"Yeah well last year around this time, his girlfriend Jessica was over at his house visiting him because he was really sick," Sean stated. "She didn't drive, so she walked over to his house since it was only a couple blocks away. She left his house late that night and I guess she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. A couple of thugs raped her and stabbed her to death."

"Oh my God," Emmy replied. "That's so sad."

"Yeah," Sean continued. "Kevin found out the next day and it totally destroyed him. He blames himself for her death because he couldn't drive her home. He went through counseling and everything, but it didn't help. So now Scott wants to bring him along on the trip and try and get him back to his old self again.

"Worst part is," Ashley chimed in, "They were engaged and were gonna be married this year."

"Yeah, it's a shame. He was a hell of a goalie," Sean said, "We could really use him on our team."

"Is that all you can think about? What good he would do for you?" Emmy asked.

"No, it's just that Scott told me that Kevin led the nation in all major goaltending categories at Boston U. and would probably be in the NHL right now had that not happened," Sean added, trying to sound sensitive. "Now, he lost his scholarship, quit the team, and transferred here."

"Wow, that is really really sad. I hope he will be alright," Emmy said.

"Yeah, he'll be fine," Sean interrupted. "We just got to take it easy on him."

"Oh shit!" Sean yelled. "I've got to get going and pick him up. I'll be back in a half hour or so and we can take off."

Emmy kisses Sean goodbye and her and Ashley continue packing their bags for the weekend they will never forget.
