REFERENCES
FILMS
NOSFERATU (1922)
The scene where the shadow of a hand approaching its victim while in bed was a nod to 'Nosferatu'.
METROPOLIS (1927)
A statuette of the Maschinenmensch can be seen on the table in Wes Craven's home.
KING KONG (1933)
Heather mentions the movie in the dialogue, saying, "Every kid knows who Freddy is. He's like Santa Claus...or King Kong".
CITIZEN KANE (1941)
The image of Freddy on the talk show waving his arms around with the spotlight behind him is a direct reference to the infamous shot in the newsroom scene after the reel plays in 'Citizen Kane'. The room is dark except for a single strong light which streams in from the window, and there is a shot of the reporter where the light is directly behind him and he displaces it as he moves his arms, just like in 'New Nightmare'.
WILD STRAWBERRIES (1957)
The nightmare sequence in which Heather and Dylan approach Chase's open coffin and is grabbed by the reanimated corpse lying within is similar to a scene in this film.
PSYCHO (1960)
In the final scene where Dylan stabs Freddy's tongue outside the oven, you can hear a variation of the famous shower scene music from 'Psycho'.
REPULSION (1967)
The cracks in the wall of Heather's home, symbolising her psychological deterioration, are similar to a scene in this film.
HOUR OF THE WOLF (1968)
The wall crawling scene is very similar to a scene in this movie.
THE EXORCIST (1973)
The scene where Dylan (who is possessed at the time) projectile vomits at an adult is similar to the famous scene in this film.
THE OMEN (1976)
The child being suspicious, having visions, and being something to fear are all references to Damien in 'The Omen'.
NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE (1979)
According to Robert Englund, the performance as Freddy in this movie was based on Klaus Kinski's role as Count Orlok in the 1979 remake of 'Nosferatu'.
KRAMER VS. KRAMER (1979)
The scene where Dylan falls off the play equipment is a reference to the famous scene in 'Kramer Vs. Kramer', where Ted and Margaret are sitting on a bench at the park not watching their kid, and shots of them talking are intercut with shots of the kid climbing the play equipment. In addition, the conversation of the pair applies both to what they're talking about and to what the kid is doing. The woman notices the kid is about to fall and runs to catch him.
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984)
Clips from the movie are shown early in the film, and mentioned multiple times.
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE (1985)
During Heather's interview, Robert Englund enters the studio dressed in Krueger's costume and exclaims "You are all my children now!", which is a nod to the line from Part 2.
DR. GIGGLES (1992)
Heather has a nightmare about Freddy (dressed as a doctor) performing a horrific operation on Dylan, just as Jennifer has one of Dr. Rendell doing that to her in 'Dr. Giggles'.
